DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
- Original passport showing the entry permit
- "Attestation Reservation de cale"
- Letter of transfer from the shipper’s employer
- Inventory (four copies) detailed, valued, in French, signed and dated by shipper, and consularized at origin (Describe all stereo, video and radio equipment, including make, model and serial number)
- Letter authorizing Destination Agent to clear shipment
- Invoice from JIRAMA (water supplier) at the same address as on the inventory
- Original Work Permit issued by employer
- Work Authorization issued by Labor Ministry in Madagascar
- Original Certificate of Change of Residence issued at origin
- Original Residence Certificate issued by the Fokontany in Madagascar
- Bordereau de suivi de cargaison (BSC)
- Certificate for Free Entry
CUSTOMS REGULATIONS
- SHIPPER MUST BE PRESENT AT CUSTOMS CLEARANCE
- All shipments inspected
- Personal effects may be duty-free
- Shipments must arrive within four months of customer
- The duty on new items is 100%.
- All import shipments are subject to a GASYNET tax of 0.3% of cost, insurance and freight (CIF) value plus 20% value added tax (VAT) of 0.3%.
MOTOR VEHICLES
- High duties and taxes apply
- Cars and motorcycles need to be systematically loaded on the door side of the container allowing the vehicle(s) to be viewed upon opening the container.
All non-diplomatic containers consisting of household goods and a vehicle or a vehicle only (VHL), will systematically be unloaded into the bonded warehouse at the port of entry at Toamasina. Please note that other ports are not yet affected by this operation.
The importation of vehicles is subject to significant additional charges for: Unloading, Bonded Warehouse, and Storage
PETS
- Certificate of good health dated within three days of arrival
- Rabies vaccination (within 30-180 days prior to arrival)
- Shipping as unaccompanied baggage not recommended
DUTIABLE/RESTRICTED ITEMS
- Food and consumable items: All canned meat products (including pork, sheep, fish, chicken, etc.) must have Certificate of Health
- Electrical items and furniture must be more than six months old, otherwise, they are subject to Customs duties and taxes
- Invoices required
- Home computers are not accepted as personal effects and are subject to Customs duties and taxes
- Books and tapes (audio and video) require an agreement from the Interior Ministry. No more than 25 audio and video tapes can be imported
- Firearms require an agreement from the Defense Ministry
- Phones and faxes require an agreement from Telecoms and Post
- The following items may qualify for free import if within the limits indicated:
- Cigarettes (500), cigars (25), tobacco (500 g)
PROHIBITED ITEMS
- Weapons, ammunition, military equipment
- Drugs and narcotics
- Alcohol and other spirits are prohibited and should be sent separately
- Animal skins, stuffed animals, birds or fish
- CBs and walkie-talkies (including children's toys)
