DOCUMENTS REQUIRED 
Securing a certificate of repatriation is a long bureaucratic process and not an automated one. Transferee has to submit a series of documents early enough to Greek Consulate. This process must begin upon booking. Without this certificate duties and taxes will be paid for both air and sea shipments
- Bill of lading
- Original passports of consignee and all members of family registered on the certificate of Repatriation (Metikisia) which can be obtained by the Greek consulate or embassy at origin.
- Detailed Inventory list made by the Allied office at origin.
- Inventory list detailed and certified by the Greek consulate in country of origin (must include make, model and serial number of ALL APPLIANCES, the quality, and quantity, square feet, and color of any woven floor covering in the shipment and auto, if any). This list will be included on the certificate of Repatriation.
- Personal Statement using the Law 1599 Form (Ipefthini dilosi) stating in Greek: I have nothing to declare more than the goods shown on the inventory list"and "I state that there are no prohibited items in this shipment such as alcohol and tobacco products, firearms and drugs". - Authorization form (Dilosi - Edoli) authorizing specific customs officer to clear the shipment on behalf of customer. Certificate authenticity of the signature is essential for this document. - Repatriating Greeks, returning citizens, military, must have been abroad for at least two years and work abroad for more than 2 consecutive years.
- Certificate of Repatriation (allows a Customer to bring goods into Greece duty-free). If customer is Greek and works abroad for more than 2 consecutive years he/she has the right to begin a procedure called in Greek ''Metikisia" (meaning repatriating) at the Greek consulate at origin. With this procedure he can enjoy a tax free import of HHG items but only in quantity of one (i.e. 1 fridge, 1 PC, etc.) The rest of the items are subject to duties and taxes. However note that this procedure might take some time.
- Letter from employer in country of origin that customer has been working abroad for the last two years, otherwise house contract shown the period of time living abroad
- Repatriating Greeks ,returning citizens, military, must have a Tax number registered in Greece at the time of customs clearance.
- For shipments with final destination in Crete Island customers will need to provide to the customs authorities the original house purchase contract or rental agreement.
CUSTOMS REGULATIONS
- Customer should be in Greece at least 4 days before shipment arrives at port of entry in Greece.
- Greek Repatriate - returning citizens should either be present at time of customs clearance or send the original passports to our office in order to provide them to the customs authorities. We strongly recommend the presence of customers during customs clearance, for facilitation of long bureaucratic procedures.
- Greek Repatriates - returning citizens must personally attend clearance of motor vehicles and pick up motor vehicles from port by them selves.
- Personal effects and household goods are generally duty-free except of electronics or high value items. We recommend contacting our office for more information.
- For foreigners coming to work in Greece, VAT (Value Added Tax) is payable on all goods. We recommend contacting our office for more information.
MOTOR VEHICLES
- It is strongly encouraged to contact destination agent prior to shipping vehicles to Greece
- For Greek Repatriates - returning citizens motor vehicle must be in owner's possession for at least six months.
- Restrictions apply to vehicles with diesel engines.
- Greek Repatriates - returning citizens must personally attend clearance of motor vehicles and pick up motor vehicles from port by them selves.
- Duties vary according to make, model and length of time car owned.
- For Greek Repatriates - returning citizens the certificate of repatriation allows them to import the vehicle free of duties and taxes. The Metikisia documents and further information on how to fill them in can be obtained by the consulate at origin.
- However, re-registration of the vehicles' plates will be needed but this takes place within 3-6 months after the importation date of the vehicle in Piraeus port. Vehicle needs to be inspected by the Ministry of Transportation (KTEO) and then goes back to customs office for re-registration. We cannot determine the costs for re-registration.
- Motor vehicle needs to be insured when arrives in Piraeus port and insurance certificate (which should be valued in Greece) needs to be shown to the customs authorities otherwise vehicle will be insured upon arrival at port for 30 days.

- Registration plates and vehicle road license showing that the appropriate road tax has been paid in the country of origin
- Drivers License

DUTIABLE/RESTRICTED ITEMS
- Alcohol and spirits (only a small quantity is permitted; items must be identified as kitchenware and loaded first in the container or truck)
- Hunting weapons (authorization from the Ministry of Interior is required)
